place for artists, a place for art
After (forced) departure from the collective spaces of Le Brise-Glace
and from september 2009 on, we have established at the Train Fantôme,
a 115 m2 2-storey house, which is property of the municipality of
Grenoble. It is towered over by a railway bridge and stands at the crossing
of very busy streets. The place is located on a border, between the Berriat
district (on the opposite edge of which stood the Brise-Glace) and the
city centre ; it is a border but a crossing point as well, where
flows of people meet between the railway station and the Estacade market,
the Jean-Jaurès avenue and the St Bruno square, in the middle of
trains, trolleys and cars, the frantic atmosphere of market mornings and
the quiet of afternoon passers-by.

Train Fantôme

This is where
we are working now, with the ambition of making of it an open place, connected
with our different networks as well as with the neighborhood. The Train
Fantôme is already our laboratory and a starting point for many
urban explorations and drifts. It is also a place for hosting artists
in residencies, with whom we share interests. We have opened the place
to the public on a first occasion for our 'Week-End occupé'
in January of 2010, which gathered many guests on the main topic of Palestine.
A program of videos,sound works, a concert and an open workshop. Since
then, we have hosted Vincent Bonnet in February of 2011, for the elaboration
in residence of issue#02 fondcommun'. He came back on
a regular basis all year long until a publication event during the winter
of 2012. Tito Gascuel has set up his worjshop at the
Train Fantôme and opened it to the public for all of April 2011. Pali Meursault has created a sound performance entitled
'For every solution there is a problem' June 24th of 2011. The last
opening event was organized with fondcommun onthe 10th and 11th
of past February. We have also hosted NathalieChazeau and Mathias Forge, two artists committed to sound art,
performance, dance and contemporary music, for three weeks in 2012.

An experimental proposition by Mathilde Monfreux and Elizabeth saint-Jalmes studying the encounters of the performer's body with different materials. The social and economic mix of the marketplace is where to research and risk, in between the vegetables and cheeses. Art as a spiritual food, as a necessary goods, consumable, for sale?
