A
place for artists, an artistic place
After (forced) departure from the collective spaces of Le Brise-Glace
and from september 2009 on, we have established at the Train Fantôme,
a 115 m2 2-storey house, which is property of the municipality of
Grenoble. It is towered over by a railway bridge and stands at the crossing
of very busy streets. The place is located on a border, between the Berriat
district (on the opposite edge of which stood the Brise-Glace) and the
city centre ; it is a border but a crossing point as well, where
flows of people meet between the railway station and the Estacade market,
the Jean-Jaurès avenue and the St Bruno square, in the middle of
trains, trolleys and cars, the frantic atmosphere of market mornings and
the quiet of afternoon passers-by.

Le
Train Fantôme
23 avenue de Vizille, Grenoble
This is where we are working from now on. We do not know how long we might
be able to stay, considering the outrageous terms set by the municipality
of Grenoble… However… this our working place now, and while
we are there, we are hoping to make it an open place for meeting, at the
crossing of our different ways and open to its neigborhood. The Train
Fantôme is already our laboratory, the meeting and starting point
for various explorations and walks in the city. It is also a residency
place for artists with whom we share problematics. We have open the place
to the public for the first time during our
"Week-End occupé" on january 2010,
featuring many guests on the non-exclusive to.
Since, we have hosted Vincent Bonnet for a residency in february 2011,
as he was developing the new issue of fondcommun,
he will come back during the year and again during the winter of 2012
for the launching of the publication. Tito
Gascuel has set is workshop up in the Train Fantôme and opened
it during all of april 2011, and lastly, Pali
Meursaulthas shown his sound performance "For every solution
there is a problem" last june 24th ; In progress is a research residency
settling in the surroundings of the Train Fantôme by Nathalie
Chazeau and Mathias Forge, two artists involved
in the sound creation, performance, dance and contemporary music, to be
continued…
At work for 2012, the permanent opening of a multimedia library (see:
'Hypermédiathèque')
in the Train Fantôme, a space for ressources gathering specialized
publications, books, records and DVD on the (vague, but that is for the
best!) topics of contemporary creation and the city, a heterogenous and
changing collection gathering the loans of anyone willing to get involved
- as a first step the documents will be only available for local consultation,
we will communicate the opening hours during january 2012.
